Interview with Brad Walst of Three Days Grace
Interview by: slavewriter6

slavewriter6:
Hey
Brad, thanks for taking the time to do this interview with me. I am a
huge fan of Three Days Grace so this is a real treat for me. How are
things on the road?
Brad:
The road has been really great. Our current tour is kicking ass. It's a
great package, Red, Seether, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace.
slavewriter6:
I'll say. You guys toured with Nickelback for a while, how was it playing with them and playing in front of 20,000 people every night?
.. --> --> --> --> --> --> -->
Brad:
We loved touring with Nickelback. We probably have done over 100 shows
with them. They are great guys...we get along really well. It was our
first tour where we were playing in front of huge crowds. I think we
learned a lot from those shows.
.. --> --> --> --> --> --> -->
slavewriter6:
How was the experience of being on the Leno show earlier this year?
.. --> --> --> --> --> --> -->
Brad:
Leno is always fun. We have done it 3 times now. TV is the only place
where we get a bit nervous before....I think just because you only get
one shot to play the song.
.. --> --> --> --> --> --> -->
slavewriter6:
What would you say your favorite song is off the One X album? And is it also your favorite song to perform live?
.. --> --> --> --> --> --> -->
Brad:
My favorite song on the album and to play live is "Get Out Alive". I
like this one because its got a great groove.....and its got a
different feel then our other songs.
.. --> --> --> --> --> --> -->
slavewriter6:
You
know, it is amazing to find a CD these days where every single song is
really good. When I first listened to One-X I didn't come across one
song I didn't like. I know it is hard to tell how people will react to
your songs and usually they like some and don't like some. Were you
guys surprised by the amazing response to this CD?
Brad:
Yeah I mean you never know how people are going to respond to the songs
you write. We just try to write the best songs we can......we don't
really try to cater to anyone......just ourselves. We are very
fortunate that we have the best fans in the world......we never take
that for granted.
.. --> --> --> --> --> --> -->
slavewriter6:
Three
of you guys were playing together in high school correct? Is high
school when you started playing bass or was it before that?
.. --> --> --> --> --> --> -->
Brad:
I actually started playing bass when I met Adam. He played guitar so he
suggested I get a bass and we could start a band......the rest is
history I guess. (Laughs). .. --> --> --> --> --> --> -->
slavewriter6:
I guess so! Now, do all of you work on the song writing or does Adam do most of it?
.. --> --> --> --> --> --> -->
Brad:
No....we all have a part in it.....Adam writes a lot of the lyrics.
slavewriter6:
Are you guys currently working on new material while you are out on the road?
.. --> --> --> --> --> --> -->
Brad:
Yeah.....we have about 3 songs finished.....but we have tons of great
ideas.....I can't wait to get off the road and start putting them all
together.
.. --> --> --> --> --> --> -->
slavewriter6:
I
have always wondered and I am sure I have missed this answer a ton of
times but how did you guys come up with the name Three Days Grace?
.. --> --> --> --> --> --> -->
Brad:
I actually heard the name in business class......and in business it
means you get 3 days to pay off your debts.....but to us it stood for a
sense of urgency that comes with the pay off......at the time it seemed
to really fit with the music we were writing.....urgent.
.. --> --> --> --> --> --> -->
slavewriter6:
I have heard that you went to school for and are an accountant, which is what you did before the band got signed, is this true?
.. --> --> --> --> --> --> -->
Brad:
Yeah it's true. Though I think I have totally fried that side of my
brain....because I don't really remember much accounting anymore.....I never want to do that again.
.. --> --> --> --> --> --> -->
slavewriter6:
Before we wrap it up, I see you guys are on the road right now until mid-November with a date here in Houston on November 13th which is great for me! But are you guys planning to
take a break after that or do you have more dates to come?
Brad:
We
have some Christmas shows in December, then we are going to do a
Canadian Tour with Seether, then probably do another American
run.....then wrap up.....so that will take us to April 2008......so
that will be exactly 2 years on the road......what a crazy ride.
.. --> --> --> --> --> --> -->
slavewriter6:
Crazy ride indeed! Well, thanks so much Brad and I look forward to seeing you guys soon!
.. --> --> --> --> --> --> -->
Brad:
Thanks.....see ya soon!
hey cutie!
