This morning during "Rock Out With Your Stock Out" I mentioned a wine tasting this Thursday (June 28). It will be at The Furniture Bank warehouse which is close to 288 & Old Spanish Trail (between 610 and downtown).
There is no charge to attend. While there you will learn about a charity that until a few years ago not many people had ever heard about. This is because there USED to be federal and state funding for this program thru government programs. Now with out any support from government programs like FEMA, over 60 local social services agencies rely on The Furniture Bank to operate and stay in business to assist the people that they serve to living better lives.
Most people that receive Section 8 (government) assistance for the first time have been living on the street, out of their car, or in a shelter for some time. After they are able to move into a house or apartment, there is almost always no furniture, no beds, no plates, no glasses, no television, NOTHING. You can imagine how hard it would be having your kids move into a new place and have them sleep on the floor, eat sitting on the floor, do their school work on the floor...you get the idea.
I look forward to personally showing you around our warehouse and have a glass of wine with you! No need to reserve a spot but feel free to send me a note so I can be sure to meet you.
